Job summary

Boston University is seeking a part-time (20 hours/week) Employee Assistance Program professional to provide confidential clinical services to BU faculty, staff, and their household members. The role includes crisis intervention, case management, and collaboration with HR and Occupational Health on fitness for duty and reintegration.

Some remote work is available; position reports to the Director of the Faculty & Staff Assistance Office.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a mental health field and licensure in good standing is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years post‑Master’s experience.
  • Experience working with diverse racial, cultural, socio‑economic, educational, age and gender populations.
  • Advanced knowledge to intervene on substance use, psychiatric illness, suicide/homicide risk, interpersonal violence, and workplace conflict.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; public speaking and training delivery experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic data base management applications.
  • Some schedule flexibility to provide services before 9 am or after 5 pm.
  • Employee assistance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide confidential clinical services to individuals, couples, and groups including assessment, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, case monitoring, and referrals.
  • Provide critical incident and grief support for individuals and groups.
  • Consult with managers, HR, Occupational Health, EDI and other admins on risk, conflicts, and performance/work issues.
  • Coordinate with HR and Occupational Health on fitness for duty and reintegration of employees returning from leave.
  • Maintain timely case documentation and program statistics in line with confidentiality and ethics.

Job description

Provides employee assistance services to promote the resilience and well-being of Boston University faculty, staff, and their household family members. Services include direct clinical care, consultation and training to the organization, development of program promotion activities, and establishment of community linkages and a provider referral network. This part‑time (20 hours per week) **** position supports employees on Boston University's Charles River and Medical Campuses, with the option for some remote work. The position reports to the Director of the Faculty & Staff Assistance Office.

Clinical Counseling and Case Management
  • Provides confidential clinical services to individuals, couples, and groups including assessment, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, case monitoring, and referrals for personal and work-related concerns.
  • Provides critical incident and grief support for individuals and groups.
  • Consults to managers/supervisors, Human Resources, Occupational Health, Equal Opportunity, Diversity & Inclusion and other department administrators regarding risk assessment, critical incidents, workplace conflict, and employees with work performance, personal, or other workplace issues.
  • Provides consultation and coordination with Human Resources and Occupational Health in assessing fitness for duty and supporting successful reintegration of employees returning from leave.
  • Maintains timely case documentation and program statistics; strictly adheres to confidentiality and ethical guidelines.
Training, Education, and Wellness Promotion
  • Creates and delivers responsive training and educational workshops on effective utilization of EAP services, behavioral health, emotional well-being, work-life, and other EAP-related topics.
  • Participates in program awareness activities; cultivates employee well-being through innovative programing, workshops, social media and promotion of wellness activities.
Program Development and Community Engagement
  • Fosters and maintains effective and constructive communication within a team environment.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and develops referral relationships with local behavioral health and substance use treatment providers; identifies community resources to address employee needs.
  • Initiates and implements clinical and programmatic improvements to EAP services; contributes to creating and revising policies and procedures.
  • Serves on advisory boards and committees within the organization and in professional EAP organizations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Required Skills
