Job summary

The Board of Education of Charles County is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the Emotional Adjustment (EA) program. This 10.5-month exempt position supports students with disabilities through individualized instruction within a therapeutic framework across multiple schools.

The role emphasizes implementing IEPs, behavior management, data collection, and collaboration with families, staff, and the school psychologist to promote academic and social-emotional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and meets licensure requirements as established by the Maryland Department of Education.
• Pass the CPI Training involving student restraints.
• Other experience as established by Maryland Law and Board of Education policy.

Responsibilities

• Implement CCPS’ curriculum with differentiated instruction per IEPs.
• Deliver EA behavior management program and collect data daily.
• Direct the instructional assistant in their role.
• Help students de-escalate and conduct problem solving sessions.
• Assist in crisis prevention and use of restraint as needed.
• Obtain CPI certificate within the first year and renew licensure annually.
• Facilitate Check-in/Check-out with students.
• Coordinate implementation of IEPs across settings.
• Attend IEP meetings for caseload and EA students.
• Provide intensive case management and parent contacts.
• Communicate with service providers and general education teachers.
• Conduct standardized educational assessments and observations.
• Develop interventions and participate in EA team meetings.
• Collaborate with EA staff and school psychologist on student issues.
• Maintain professional standards and certification.
• Deliver engaging instruction using varied methods.
• Integrate technology into the curriculum.
