Job summary

Acuity Inc. in Decatur, GA is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead EMI/EMC design of LED driver products from concept to production.

You will mentor engineers and collaborate with product management, manufacturing, quality, and certification labs to deliver reliable, manufacturable solutions. The role requires deep EMI expertise, power electronics knowledge, and a track record of guiding complex projects through design reviews and regulatory approvals.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power electronics, or LED driver design.
• Strong EMI/EMC experience and FCC Part 15 Class A/B compliance.
• Experience with EMI filter design, PCB layout mitigation, grounding and shielding.
• Hands-on EMI troubleshooting with spectrum analyzers, LISNs, near-field probes, oscilloscopes.
• PCB design layout knowledge for EMI and manufacturability.
• Ability to define technical direction and guide product architecture.
• Experience leading design reviews, risk assessments, and cross-functional discussions.
• Mentor engineers and establish design best practices across projects.
• Problem solving with data-driven analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
• Knowledge of power electronics topologies and components.
• Familiar with Ansys and PSpice for simulations.
• Excellent communication and lab equipment usage.

Responsibilities

• Applies EMI/EMC design to LED driver designs for FCC Part 15 Class A/B compliance.
• Leads EMI pre‑compliance reviews and testing and drives corrective actions when margins are inadequate.
• Troubleshoots EMI issues using lab equipment and structured root‑cause analysis.
• Collaborates with labs, certification partners, quality, manufacturing and cross‑functional teams to qualify products.
• Strengthens EMI capabilities through project collaboration and training.
• Leads new product development, product enhancements, and cost reduction activities.
• Initiates concepts for new products from Project Charters and aligns with manufacturing methods.
• Drives structured product development meetings for major projects.
• Mentors engineers to develop skills and design standards across programs.
• Develops engineering data, schematics, layouts and quality reports.
• Reviews competitor samples and creates benchmark reports.
• Identifies emerging technologies and industry trends to improve performance.
• Continuously seeks productivity and quality improvements; supports CI initiatives.
