Job summary

The University of Pittsburgh seeks an Emerging Technology and Simulation AV Specialist to operate and advance audiovisual and XR systems in simulation and instructional spaces.

Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot AV equipment; support recording and debrief systems; provide live technical support during high‑stakes simulations.

Collaborate with faculty, simulation staff, and IT to ensure reliable, immersive learning experiences across Scaife Hall labs and the 5th Avenue site.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of AR/VR experience.
  • AVIXA certification, CompTIA A+ or medical education background is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with simulation labs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot AV systems in simulation labs and classrooms.
  • Support recording and debrief systems for simulations.
  • Provide live technical support during simulations.
  • Support XR platforms and medical education software.
  • Maintain device inventory and lab equipment.

Emerging Technology and Simulation AV Specialist

The Emerging Technology and Simulation AV Specialist works under the Health Sciences Information Technology - Educational Technology Team supporting the University’s six Health Science Schools.

This position supports the operation, maintenance, and advancement of audiovisual systems and immersive technologies used in simulation and instructional environments. This role partners with faculty, simulation staff, and IT to ensure reliable, high-quality learning experiences supported by integrated AV and extended reality (XR) technologies

The Emerging Technology and Simulation AV Specialist operates out of Scaife Hall and is primarily responsible for supporting our two Emerging Technology Labs and one clinical skills lab in Scaife Hall as well as a second clinical skills site at 5 th Avenue and Halkett Street.

Job Summary

Manages and performs work across multiple areas of the University’s Information Technology (IT) platform and infrastructure. Conducts analyses for proposed IT projects. Assists with team members' goal determinations. Provides IT support and coordinates network activities.

Essential Functions
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot AV systems in simulation labs, clinical skills spaces, and technology enhanced classrooms
  • Support integrated recording and debrief systems for simulation activities
  • Provide live technical support during high-stakes simulation events and assessments
  • Support immersive technologies used in health sciences education, including platforms such as the Anatomage Table, GigXR, and 3DOrganon applications
  • Support AR/VR hardware and software platforms; maintain device inventory and lab equipment
  • Assist faculty and staff in deploying immersive learning technologies
  • Assist with support of AV-supported events as needed
  • Participate in system upgrades, room builds, and AV integration projects as needed
  • Maintain system documentation and configuration standards
  • Provide training and user support for simulation, AV and emerging technology tools
Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
