Job Description

Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters. Responsible for managing the front end of the store and making recommendations on the overall operations of the Pharmacy and Retail Store.

Supports Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company goals; works alternate schedules with minimal overlap; assumes responsibilities of all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager. Ensures proper merchandising, protection of store assets, and improves store sales and profitability.

Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline of direct reports to ensure teams are engaged and responsible for achieving company objectives.

Customer Experience
  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer complaints promptly and answers questions to ensure a positive experience. Shares customer service best practices.
  • Monitors customer service, provides coaching and training, and develops improvement plans for both front-end and pharmacy teams. Empowers team members to resolve customer issues effectively, aiming to exceed expectations and foster loyalty.
  • Responsible for enhancing overall customer service metrics.
Operations
  • Supervises store operations and team activities, including assigning daily tasks, delegating responsibilities, managing shifts, approving time records, and handling scheduling conflicts to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Collaborates with external partners to support community outreach and external partnerships, assisting the Pharmacy Operations Manager in these efforts.
  • Supports data-driven decision making by analyzing operational data, monitoring impact, and following up on initiatives.
  • Oversees cash management, including register operations, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, safe deposits, and change orders.
  • Supervises inventory management for front end and pharmacy, analyzing trends and creating corrective actions. Ensures team adherence to inventory procedures.
  • Implements operational feedback from leadership through delegation and supervision.
  • Maintains store cleanliness and safety, manages repairs and emergency responses.
  • Ensures team proficiency with computer systems and technology.
  • Maintains compliance with policies, laws, and regulations, including sale of alcohol, tobacco, food, and pharmacy products.
  • Completes special assignments as needed.
Business Performance Management
  • Analyzes financial and performance data independently; creates action plans to meet business goals.
  • Uses KPIs and other tools to motivate the team, identify sales opportunities, and implement growth initiatives in collaboration with the Store Manager.
  • Supports pharmacy operations during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician when necessary.
People & Performance Management
  • Leads and trains team members, providing coaching, mentoring, and career development support. Manages discipline and performance reviews.
  • Assigns responsibilities, develops performance plans, sets goals, observes performance, and recognizes achievements to improve team effectiveness.
  • Recruits and retains talent, plans staffing needs, manages candidate pools, participates in interviews, and makes hiring decisions.
  • Follows proper procedures for recruitment, record keeping, and training per company policies and laws.
  • Fosters a culture of accountability through clear expectations, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
Training & Personal Development
  • Completes Store Manager training programs and other required courses, certifications, and training modules.
  • Monitors personal performance, seeks feedback, and maintains an Individual Development Plan.
  • Obtains and maintains a valid pharmacy technician license as required by state law.
Communications
  • Maintains open communication with team through meetings and discussions. Responds to questions and concerns promptly.
  • Assists in planning and communicating store strategies and company updates.

External Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or completion of Walgreens Community Internship Program, or High School Diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience (not necessarily with direct reports).
  • Demonstrated leadership, ethics, self-motivation, communication skills, and business acumen.
  • Completion of Store Manager training (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials within 12 weeks of start date.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willing to accept promotion to Store Manager, possibly requiring relocation.
  • Ability to transfer within the same hiring Area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Internal candidates: management experience supervising others, managing both front-end and pharmacy.
  • External candidates: business majors, retail or food industry experience.
