Job summary

BGE Inc. Campus Recruiting in Austin, TX is seeking a Junior Electrical Power Engineer to support electrical engineering solutions for energy services projects, including utility infrastructure, renewable energy, and grid interconnection.

As an entry-level engineer you will work under senior staff, prepare calculations and drawings, assist with project deliverables, and grow through mentorship and training to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Must have passed or be eligible to sit for the FE exam by graduation.
• 0 to 2 years of electrical engineering experience, internships or co-ops related to energy services preferred.
• Coursework knowledge of power distribution, low- and medium-voltage systems, grounding, backup power, lighting, equipment specs, and electrical infrastructure design.
• Exposure to renewable energy, battery storage, substations, grid interconnection, or utility coordination favored.
• Familiarity with electrical design and analysis tools such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, MATLAB preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with electrical engineering design and production of deliverables for energy services projects, including utility infrastructure, power distribution, renewable energy, energy storage, backup power, and site electrical systems.
• Prepare low- and medium-voltage design documents under supervision (single-line diagrams, load calculations, equipment sizing, grounding, lighting, raceway, feeder layouts).
• Support power system studies (short circuit, load flow, arc flash, protective device coordination, interconnection) by building models and tabulating results.
• Learn utility coordination and grid interconnection requirements and gather information for service entrance design and substation interfaces.
• Draft reports, calculations, specifications, cost estimates, feasibility content, equipment selections, construction documents for senior review.
• Perform self-checks, support quality control reviews, ensure compliance with codes and client requirements.
• Communicate with project teams, vendors, and contractors, attend meetings, take notes, track actions.
