Texans Can! Academies in Dallas seeks an Emergent Bilingual Instructional Aide to support ESL classrooms and assist with instructional activities and admin tasks.

The role assists teachers, helps with testing administration, prepares instructional materials, and maintains classroom organization in a diverse, fast-paced school environment.

Strong communication and basic computer skills, including MS Office and Google Suite, are helpful; bilingual skills preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate or obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Experience with children is a plus.
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individuals or small groups on instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist in providing instruction for Emergent Bilingual learners in an inclusive setting.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective tests or assignments.
  • Supervise students during the day, inside and outside the classroom.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and assist with inventory.
  • Participate in staff development and meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure effective communication and coordination.

Job Description
Primary Purpose

Assist in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements related to the implementation of the ESL program.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Associates degree or higher preferred
  • Valid Texas educational aide certificate ormustobtain within 90 days of employment by demonstrated competency through a state or local assessment

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to work with children
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Possess skills to operate and work with computer
  • Proficient in MS office, Excel and the Google Suite
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required

Experience:

  • Some experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
  • Assist teachers in providing instruction for students identified as Emergent Bilingual learners in an inclusive setting
  • Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignmentsAssist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
  • Assist in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays

  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of classroom equipment
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as required
  • Work in collaboration with other faculty and staff to ensure effective communication andcoordination
  • Assist in monitoring students to ensure an effective learning environment

Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Work will predominantly be inside but outdoor work will occur. Working conditions may be in both heat and cold. Job requires bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, reaching overhead, twisting, and sitting on the floor. Work environment may include indoor, outdoor, and field trips. Work under fast-paced, loud, stressful conditions. Some local travel may be required.
