Job Details

Job Title: English Language Development Teacher

Starting Date: Immediately

Location: Carrollton/Farmers Branch (Farmers Branch, TX)

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $61,500 to $81,000 Per Year

Reports to: Campus Administrator

Primary Purpose

This teacher will conduct research-based instructional techniques specifically designed for students whose native language is not English. In working closely with the English Department and the Emergent Bilingual staff, the teacher will identify learning gaps in EB students in the areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, using the TEKS associated with the English for Speakers of Other Languages course.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Texas Teaching Certification (Bilingual, Spanish or Secondary English with ESL endorsement) preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years experience as a successful classroom teacher. Experience with newcomer students highly preferred but not required.
  • Special Knowledge/Skills: Firm understanding of TEKS Standards and ELPS. Strong understanding of Content Based Language Instruction and coaching other teachers in this model. Pedagogy and curricular programs for historically underserved populations. Ability to collaborate with stakeholders across content areas, administrators, and district support. Effective communication in English orally and in writing. Computer proficiency and willingness to learn new applications. Adherence to district professional conduct standards.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Utilize the district-approved curriculum, scope-and-sequence, TEKS, and ELPS to deliver high-quality instruction to students from linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Support and communicate campus and district initiatives for closing achievement gaps in EB students.
  • Use the Talk, Read, Talk, Write instructional model to develop students' Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing skills.
  • Collaborate with staff, co-plan, and foster trusting relationships to enhance learning.
  • Work with the LPAC team to ensure students' linguistic needs are met and align support with state and district assessments.
  • Analyze data to inform classroom decisions and target improvement areas.
  • Coordinate with the Campus Testing Coordinator for TELPAS assessment implementation.
  • Deliver instructional lessons, adapt curriculum to individual student needs, and translate lesson plans into engaging learning experiences.
  • Maintain classroom standards, discipline, and a functional learning environment.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and regular updates on student progress.
  • Assist pupils in understanding relationships, culture, history, and emotional well‑being.
  • Participate in professional growth activities, curriculum development, faculty committees, and school activities.
  • Plan and coordinate support staff, oversee attendance, and perform clerical services as required.
  • Other duties as assigned that support instruction.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Campus assigned personnel; supervise teachers, student advisors, maintenance, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and others as assigned.

Working Conditions

Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem‑solving skills while under stress. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, interpret procedures, and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel with occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Adhere to safety rules, report injuries immediately, and participate in safety training.
