Job summary

National Veterinary Associates seeks an Assistant Hospital Manager / Emergency Veterinary Technician Manager to join our AAHA-accredited emergency hospital leadership team. This hands-on role balances coaching, patient care, and operational excellence to elevate the Emergency Technician team and client service.

You'll partner with the Hospital Manager and Medical Director to drive performance, develop people, and shape a culture of exceptional medicine and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of leadership or supervisory experience, preferably in veterinary emergency medicine.
  • Previous veterinary hospital experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field is a plus.
  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) strongly preferred.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing veterinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop the Emergency Technician team.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate new technicians and assistants.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing coaching, and support career development.

Assistant Hospital Manager / Emergency Veterinary Technician Manager

Are you an experienced veterinary technician leader ready to take the next step in your career? Do you thrive in a fast-paced emergency environment while coaching and developing high-performing teams?

We're looking for an Assistant Hospital Manager / Emergency Veterinary Technician Manager to join our hospital leadership team. In this role, you'll partner closely with the Hospital Manager and Medical Director to lead our Emergency Technician team, drive operational excellence, and foster a collaborative culture centered around exceptional patient care and client service.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll split your time between coaching your team, improving hospital operations, and jumping in to support patient care when needed.

The Opportunity

As the Emergency Veterinary Technician Manager, you'll oversee the Emergency Department's Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, and Overnight Technicians while ensuring efficient workflow, exceptional medicine, and an outstanding client experience.

You'll play a key role in developing your team, improving processes, and helping shape the culture of a busy, AAHA-accredited emergency hospital.

What You'll Do

Lead, mentor, coach, and develop the Emergency Technician team.

Recruit, onboard, train, and evaluate new technicians and assistants.

Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing coaching, and support career development.

Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative team culture.

Coordinate continuing education opportunities and ensure team members remain engaged in professional growth.

Hospital Operations

Manage technician scheduling, staffing levels, and shift coverage to maintain efficient hospital operations.

Monitor patient flow and proactively adjust staffing assignments to support changing hospital needs.

Collaborate with leadership to develop and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Ensure compliance with AAHA standards, OSHA requirements, DEA/Controlled Substance protocols, and hospital policies.

Partner with General Practice leadership to coordinate cross-training and staffing support.

Patient Care & Clinical Support

Remain actively involved on the hospital floor and assist the medical team during high-volume periods.

Support Fear Free best practices and help coach the team in delivering compassionate patient care.

Serve as a clinical resource for technicians, assistants, and client service representatives.

Maintain a strong focus on patient safety, quality medicine, and operational efficiency.

Client Experience

Promote exceptional client communication and education throughout the Emergency Department.

Assist with resolving client concerns and support the team in difficult conversations.

Coach technicians on communication skills, conflict resolution, and delivering an outstanding client experience.

Support efficient inventory management and resource utilization.

Help monitor labor efficiency and department productivity.

Encourage proper payment collection practices while balancing compassionate client care.

Identify opportunities to improve workflows, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance operational performance.

What We're Looking For

3–5 years of leadership or supervisory experience, preferably in veterinary emergency medicine.

Previous veterinary hospital experience required.

Credentialed Veterinary Technician (LVT/RVT/CVT) strongly preferred.

Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field is a plus.

Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing veterinary teams.

Strong organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

Passion for building team culture, developing people, and delivering exceptional patient and client care.
