Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Levittown, PA is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our busy ER. You will work with a team of veterinary professionals to care for critically ill or injured pets, monitoring anesthesia, triage, and diagnostics.

Qualifications

• Experience as an emergency veterinary technician in a busy hospital.
• Proficiency with anesthesia induction/monitoring and patient recovery.
• Ability to perform radiographs and monitor vitals.
• Compassion and strong client communication.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients.
• Triage emergency cases and record vitals.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique.
• Interpret vital signs and alert Vet to changes.
• Identify patients at risk and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medications and administer IV therapies.
• Place intravenous catheters and maintain lines.

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Levittown, PA is hiring experienced Emergency Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency department.

Pay: $21.00 - $43.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system

** Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience**

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
