Job summary

PetVet Care Centers Olympia Pet Emergency is seeking a Surgical Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians with daily tasks, equipment upkeep, patient restraint, and clinical duties in a fast-paced emergency setting.

The role involves assisting with procedures, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, recording medical data, and providing compassionate care. Full-time, on-site position with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a surgical department and/or experience with high-risk anesthesia cases.
• Alternatively, applicants currently enrolled in an accredited licensure program may be considered if they have completed a minimum of two semesters.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients.
• Greet patients and their owners on arrival and record vital signs.
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medications as directed by licensed staff.
• Calm and soothe anxious patients.
• Assist doctors and technicians with medications and patient restraint.
• Perform laboratory tests and radiographs.
• Maintain and operate hospital equipment and ensure safe handling of controlled drugs.
• Feed and monitor patients, reporting any changes.
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and treatment plans.
• Maintain cleanliness of the hospital and safe chemical usage.
• Bath and groom overnight patients and ensure proper release.
