Jobbeschreibung

At Five Rivers Pet Emergency, we are proudly privately and locally owned. Free from corporate constraints and distant decision-makers, our hospital is driven entirely by quality medicine, client trust, and team well-being. We firmly believe high-stakes emergency medicine is best practiced in a supportive, upbeat, and healthy work culture where doctors are excited to learn, teach, and practice top-tier clinical care.

Whether you are an experienced emergency clinician looking for a collaborative home, a relief doctor seeking new opportunities, or a motivated doctor looking to build confidence in ER, we welcome doctors who bring enthusiasm, a growth mindset, and a commitment to a positive team environment.

Why practice with us?
  • Private ownership and clinical autonomy: Practice medicine tailored to the patient and client, supported by local ownership that invests directly in the team and facility.
  • Mentorship and surgical opportunities: From complex medical workups to emergency procedures and soft-tissue surgeries (GDV, splenectomies, pyometras, enterotomies), we offer dedicated mentorship and room to expand your surgical and critical care skills at your own pace.
  • Culture of mutual learning: We love doctors who are eager to learn and excited to teach. We foster an environment of shared knowledge, open case discussions, and continuous growth across our entire medical team.
  • Upbeat, positive culture: ER medicine is fast-paced, but our floor is grounded in mutual respect, zero-drama teamwork, and a supportive atmosphere where you never feel isolated on shift.
  • Strong nursing support: Work alongside cross-trained Technicians and Assistants proficient in triage, ICU management, anesthesia monitoring, and CPR.
Schedule and shift flexibility

Because emergency medicine operates 24/7/365, reliability and flexibility are key to our operation. We offer flexible scheduling options to support healthy work-life balance for our clinicians:

  • Options available for Full-Time, Part-Time, and Relief shifts (including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Proactive shift planning to ensure fair rotation and dedicated time off to rest and recharge.
Core responsibilities
  • Emergency medicine and critical care: Manage a diverse and fast-paced caseload ranging from outpatient urgent care to critical life-support and shock stabilization.
  • Surgical and diagnostic intervention: Perform emergency surgical procedures, sedated interventions, and diagnostic workups (point-of-care ultrasound, digital radiography, in-house laboratory suite).
  • Collaborative leadership: Work closely with cross-trained medical technicians and assistants, delegating floor tasks effectively while guiding the clinical team with clarity and composure.
  • Client and referring DVM communication: Provide compassionate, empathetic communication to pet owners during high-stress moments and maintain strong relationships with local primary care veterinarians.
  • Degree and licensure: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM / VMD) or equivalent, with an active state veterinary license in good standing.
  • Experience level: Open to experienced ER clinicians, internship-trained doctors, or motivated general practitioners eager to transition into emergency medicine with structured support and mentorship.
  • Clinical skills: Proficiency (or eagerness to develop proficiency under mentorship) in emergency triage, stabilization, critical care, and soft-tissue emergency surgery.
  • Mindset and fit: A positive, collaborative attitude, strong communication skills, and a desire to contribute to a healthy, team-first hospital culture.
