Job summary

The Ohio State University is seeking a Veterinary Care Assistant 2 for the Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care team on the second shift. You will assist clinicians and staff in daily operations within the Veterinary Medical Center, enhancing care for ill and injured animals and supporting students in prescribed care.

Duties include patient care, specimen collection, patient assessment, and assisting with training of student employees. Expect 40 hours weekly, rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum of 6 months of veterinary experience.
• Ability to work 40 hours/week on the 2nd shift with rotating weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care.
• Assist with lab specimen collection (blood, urine, feces).
• Assist with patient assessment, restraint and treatments.
• Assist with training student employees in prescribed care of animals.
• Care for hospitalized animals and maintain clean housing, feeding and watering.
• Monitor patients and report changes to supervisor or vet.
• Assist with admission/discharge and transport within the facility.
• Deliver specimens to necropsy; stock supplies and equipment.
• Clean and disinfect treatment and surgical areas and animal housing.
