Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Tucson is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support an active ER team from day one. You’ll help triage, assist with treatments, and ensure smooth patient care while comforting pet parents in a fast-paced setting.

We encourage growth for those pursuing vet tech credentials or long-term veterinary careers, offering hands-on training, mentorship, and pathways to advanced responsibilities within VEG. Evening/weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and support, triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, from bloodwork and imaging to catheter placement and oxygen support.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation setups.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings and join rounds for continuity.
• Learn CPR and pursue RECOVER Certification with training provided.
• Grow into advanced responsibilities with guided training pathways.
