Capital District Veterinary Referral Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for Emergency care in Latham, NY. This full-time position offers three 12-hour shifts weekly, with $20–$25/hr base pay, plus $3.50/hr overnight differential and double pay on holidays.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in veterinary medicine.
• Currently enrolled in or actively pursuing a Veterinary Technician program preferred.
• Understanding of animal restraint, patient handling, and safety protocols.
• Knowledge of proper sanitation, hygiene, and aseptic techniques.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency environment.
• Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to learning and professional growth in veterinary medicine.
• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.

Responsibilities

• Safely restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Provide nursing support and basic animal husbandry for hospitalized patients.
• Assist with maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
• Perform nail trims and suture/staple removals as directed.
• Support emergency clinicians with patient care, diagnostics, and treatments.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment environment.
• Deliver compassionate care to patients and exceptional service to clients.
• Collaborate with technicians, assistants, and veterinarians to provide high-quality emergency care.
