Job summary

Laramie County Government is seeking a skilled Public Safety Dispatcher to join our emergency communications team. The role requires operating 911, Text-2-911, and TTY/TDD lines, coordinating multiple dispatch channels, and providing critical information to responders.

You will work with a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, monitor GPS data, and support emergency services with accurate data entry and timely responses. Candidates must pass a background check and drug screen.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Shift work, holidays, and weekend availability may be required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to 911, Text-2-911, and TTY/TDD calls from the public and agencies; initiate information exchanges as needed.
• Identify and coordinate Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) calls; provide caller guidance as needed.
• Use Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) to enter calls, track responder status, and research data for calls and responders.
• Monitor responders via telephone, radio, CAD, and GPS; ensure expeditious dispatch of appropriate units.
• Coordinate information flow between public safety responders and governmental/civilian support agencies; notify about system malfunctions and request tow services.
• Utilize CJIS to inquire about persons and property; review driver history, vehicle registrations, and criminal history.

Summary

Under direct supervision, facilitates emergency and routine public safety communications between the general public, public safety responders and their respective support agencies; utilizes specialized radio, telephone and computer systems in order to prevent or lessen the likelihood of loss of life or property.

• Responds to telephone, Text-2-911, and TTY/TDD calls from the public, supported agencies and outside agencies in relation to requests for emergency assistance, routine assistance, and general information; initiates telephone calls to facilitate the exchange of information as required.
• Identifies and coordinates Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) calls, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) calls, and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) calls including guiding callers through basic medical/first aid, scene, and personal safety steps to be taken until the arrival of qualified field responders.
• Utilizes a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System to enter calls for service, responder status, and to add pertinent information to calls for service and/or responder activities; prioritizes calls for service and monitors responder status; conducts research on names, locations, phone numbers, vehicles and property in conjunction with fire, law enforcement, and medical situations.
• Tracks responders through the combined use of telephone, radio, CAD, and GPS mapping systems; ensures the expedient dispatch of appropriate responders.
• Utilizes various radio frequencies in order to communicate effectively with relevant government and civilian entities; ensures an expedient response to emergencies and routine calls.
• Coordinates the flow of information between public safety responders to both governmental and civilian support agencies; for example: notification of malfunctioning traffic signals and requests for tow trucks.
• Utilizes the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) to make inquiries in relation to persons and property; conducts research regarding driver's licenses, driver history, vehicle registration, and criminal history.
• Conducts information quality control; ensures accuracy and completeness of information gathered.
• Upon request, activates Emergency Warning Systems providing advance warning to County residents regarding imminent danger or disseminating critical information.
• Maintains all required certifications, licenses, and professional development efforts by obtaining continuing educations credits, attending emergency communications-specific training, conferences, and seminars.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

• Skill in monitoring and maintaining emergency response systems.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent and must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background investigation in accordance with Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission rules. Ability to work shift work, holidays, and weekends as the schedule requires.
