Overview

The Public Safety Department has a part-time staff position for an Emergency Telecommunications Operator. The Emergency Communications Center operates 24/7 and seeks a flexible individual who can work all shifts and fill in for vacation and sick days. The operator is responsible for controlling traffic onto campus, greeting people in person and on the telephone in a courteous and friendly manner, monitoring all alarms for the facility, dispatching operations, and performing various essential data entry tasks. The role requires the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and to utilize computer equipment and specialized computer programs.

Responsibilities
  • Control traffic onto campus and greet visitors and callers in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Monitor all alarms for the entire facility.
  • Dispatch operations and perform essential data entry.
  • Perform a multitude of simultaneous tasks in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
  • Utilize computer equipment and specialized computer programs.
  • Be flexible to work all shifts and fill in for vacations and sick days.
Qualifications
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to become an Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) certified as a Public Safety Telecommunicator 1.
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 20 words per minute.
  • Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years' experience working with the general public.
