Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a labor assignments role to stand-by for call-in work to support storm prep and snow removal. You'll perform heavy manual tasks outdoors and operate equipment during winter conditions.

This position emphasizes flexibility with day or night shifts, long 12-hour shifts, and adherence to safety rules. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, wear safety shoes, and hold a valid driver's license. Pre-employment screenings apply.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor to include standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work day or night shifts to support emergency operations.
• Safety shoes required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• A combination of training, experience or education in Emergency Operations, snow removal or related field is desired.

Responsibilities

• Emergency Operations: Assist and support operations for clearing snow and ice from roadways, applying abrasives and chemicals on road surfaces.
• Manual Labor: Install tire chains, plow blades, and perform debris removal.
• Perform duties as assigned.
• Preventative Maintenance: Maintain equipment used during inclement weather to support emergency operations and clearing roadways.
