Job summary

Hr Journals is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department to lead a newly renovated and expanded ED. The role requires clinical expertise in emergency nursing and proven management experience to drive patient safety, quality outcomes, and team development.

The Nurse Manager will oversee daily operations, staffing, and regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within a dynamic department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a CCNE-accredited program.
  • Active Maryland RN License (MBON).
  • 5+ years of Emergency Department nursing experience.
  • 1+ year of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • BLS (AHA) – Required.
  • ACLS & PALS (AHA) – Required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and day-to-day management of the Emergency Department.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards, including National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, productivity, staffing levels, overtime, and premium pay utilization.
  • Serve as a role model, advisor, and clinical resource to staff and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Hire, onboard, mentor, and retain nursing staff.
  • Ensure all staff competencies, certifications, and education requirements are completed.
  • Manage performance, provide coaching, and address disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Champion exceptional patient and family experiences.
  • Support evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure rapid response to emergent and critical patient situations.
  • Ensure accurate payroll and staffing alignment.
  • Act as a responsible steward of organizational resources.

Job Overview

We areseeking an experienced Nurse Manager – Emergency Department to lead a newly renovated and expanded Emergency Department. This role is ideal for a strong clinical leader with emergency nursing expertise and demonstrated management experience who is passionate about patient safety, quality outcomes, and team development.

The Nurse Manager is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality, age-appropriate patient care while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

  • Provide overall leadership and day-to-day management of the Emergency Department
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards, including National Patient Safety Goals

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a CCNE-accredited program

Active Maryland RN License (MBON)

5+ years of Emergency Department nursing experience

1+ year of leadership or supervisory experience

BLS (AHA) – Required

ACLS & PALS (AHA) – Required

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree (MSN, MHA, MBA, MA, or MS)

National nursing certification (preferred within 1 year of hire)
