Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Focuses primarily on RN-to-RN screenings (i.e., reviewing H&P, labs, and other clinical documentation) for all admissions and ensures patients are medically appropriate for admission.
- Responds to inquiry calls regarding services.
- Oversees the admission process, including the appropriateness of the admission, completion of RN-to-RN screenings, orders for the admissions, and any additional required paperwork.
- Assists in assigning units/programs based on patient needs.
- Knowledgeable and able to explain hospital programs and services.
- Provides accurate and complete information to physicians regarding RN-to-RN screening.
- Communicates with physicians and providers to receive admission orders and medical clearance as needed.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations related to psychiatric admissions.
- Maintains data/records regarding the admission process for medical screenings.
- Completes medical screening evaluations and triaging on all patients presenting for assessment in accordance with EMTALA laws.
- Provides first aid and medical care as needed.
- Coordinates transfer of patients requiring a higher level of medical care and/or medical clearance.
- Has a strong understanding of department computer systems.
- Conducts initial assessments, including prior treatment history, previous medications, health screening, family dynamics, and risk factors.
