Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking a casual Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to join the ED team at East Bank University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. The role supports nurses with patient care, transports patients and equipment, and maintains rooms and supplies.

Schedule includes 12-hour shifts with days, evenings, and nights plus weekends as needed. The candidate must have BLS and one of several qualifications (EMT/ERT, Paramedic, CNA, LPN/RN/NP student with clinicals, 6 months of patient care,

Qualifications

• Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following: EMT/ERT certification, Paramedic certification, CNA on MN Registry, enrolled in LPN/RN/NP program with at least 1 completed clinical semester, six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care), completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training, or LPN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Assist professionals with patient care and nursing tasks and act as a nurse extender.
• Transport patients and equipment, set up and maintain patient rooms, and manage supplies.
• Document patient care activities clearly and timely on nursing records.
• Restock rooms, supplies, carts, and assist with room clean-up between patients.
• Perform quality control checks on designated equipment and report discrepancies.

Fairview is looking for a casual Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to join our ED team at our East Bank University Hospitalin Minneapolis, MN.

The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. Depending on unit needs and the discretion of the professional nurse, the ERT may be assigned patient care responsibilities.

Schedule: This position is casual and will work a variety of 12 hour day/evening/ and night shifts with weekends as needed.

Job Expectations:

Provides patient care:

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns
• Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests
• Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
• Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
• Obtains ordered specimens from patient
• Transports specimens and blood products
• Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures
• Assists in resuscitation
• Functions as nurse extender: assists nurses with patient care activities

Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records.

• Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely

Maintains room/unit and supplies

• Restocks room, supplies, and carts
• Assists with patient room clean-up between patients
• Completes room and cart checklist

Performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment

• Completes quality control checklist
• Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to charge nurse or manager

Required Qualifications (Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following):

• Current EMT or ERT certification
• Current Paramedic certification
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry
• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)
• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program
• LPN licensure

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ years of Emergency Department experience (EMT, ERT, paramedic, scribe, etc.)
• Current experience as a CNA or NST
