Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Sterling Heights is seeking an Emergency Room Technical Assistant to support nursing staff and clinicians during nightly shifts. You will assist with patient care, perform routine tasks under supervision, and help ensure efficient, compassionate care in a fast-paced environment.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, BCLS certification, and prior ED or medical assisting experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• BCLS certification is required.
• Previous Emergency Department Technician, MA or Nursing Assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists RNs and Providers with assessments, examinations and treatments as requested.
• Draws blood and collects specimens; performs EKGs; assists with splinting and immobilizers.
• Takes vital signs for adults and pediatric patients; performs basic procedures under supervision.
• Recognizes and reports life-threatening dysrhythmias or abnormal vital signs to RN/Provider.

The Henry Ford Health Sterling Heights Emergency Department is a 15-bed free-standing facility.

Our staff has a close working relationship. The physicians, nurses, and technicians are all centrally located for ease of collaboration and communication, which leads to a positive work environment.

While a small ED, we are fast paced and work well together.We are looking for candidates to join our team.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assist with patient care based on individual needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of a registered nurse or Provider.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists RNs and Providers with assessments, examinations and treatments as requested. The following list of treatments/examinations is not inclusive and may vary by Business Unit: a) Drawing blood and collection of specimens b) EKG’s c) Splint/immobilizers applications d) Taking vital signs on adults and pediatric patients e) Inserting neuro-gastric tubes f) Urethral catheterization of adult patients g) Discontinuance of peripheral IV’s h) Starting unmediated IV’s

2. Prepares and assists Providers with procedures such as: a) Suturing-preps patients and prepares sterile trays. b) Application of casts. c) Miscellaneous procedures including pelvic exams, lumbar punctures.

3. Assists patients as needed.

4. Recognize potential of life-threatening dysrhythmias and abnormal vital signs and report same to RN/Provider.

5. Adheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines.

6. Documents patient care performed.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Previous Emergency Dept Technician, MA or Nursing Assistant experience preferred.
• BCLS certification required.

LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

One of four certifications required:

• B-EMT,
• Graduate from a formal Medical Assistant program,
• Completion of a formal nursing education program to practice as an RN offshore,
• Completion of a formal medical doctor education program to practice as a medical doctor offshore.
• EMT license preferred.
• Successful completion of a 180-day orientation period required.
