Job summary

Henry Ford Health Center – Brownstown is hiring an Emergency Room Technical Assistant to support nurses and providers in a fast-paced ED. You'll assist with patient assessments, collect specimens, draw blood, perform EKGs, apply splints, and help with procedures under direct supervision.

This on-site role offers a 36-hour workweek, full-time night schedule (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) with every-other-weekend and holiday rotations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• BCLS Certification is required.
• One year ER Technical experience is a strong plus.
• One of the following is required at time of hire: Basic EMT certification; completion of accredited Medical Assistant, nursing, or MD program; EMT license.
• Ability to successfully complete a 180-day orientation program.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient assessments, exams, and treatments.
• Drawing blood & collecting specimens.
• Performing EKGs.
• Applying splints or immobilizers.
• Taking vital signs (adult and pediatric).
• Inserting NG tubes, urethral catheters.
• Starting and discontinuing IVs (as applicable).
• Prepare and assist with procedures including suturing, casting, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures, and more.
• Recognize abnormal vitals or dysrhythmias and alert the RN/Provider immediately.
• Provide patient and family support with professionalism and empathy.
• Maintain equipment and supplies; clean and prepare rooms between patients.
• Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and hospital standards.

Schedule: Full-Time (36 Hours/Week), Every other weekend and holiday rotation

Shift: Midnight Shift 7:00 PM – 7:30AM

As an Emergency Room Technical Assistant, you’ll work side-by-side with nurses and providers to deliver timely, compassionate care during critical moments. Education/Experience Required

• High School Diploma or GED required
• BCLS Certification required
• Previous experience in an Emergency Department or acute care setting is a strong plus
• One of the following is required at time of hire
• Basic EMT certification
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant, nursing, or MD program
• One year of Emergency Room Technical experience
• EMT license preferred
• Ability to successfully complete a 180-day orientation program

Certifications/Licensures Required

Must meet one of the following criteria:

• Basic EMT (B-EMT) certification
• Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant program
• Completion of a formal nursing education program
• Completion of a formal medical doctor education program

OR

• One (1) year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience (Must complete one of the above certifications/programs within 12 months of hire)
