Job summary

Medical City McKinney is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care on a busy, trauma‑focused unit. The role emphasizes collaboration with physicians and the care team to ensure optimal clinical outcomes and a positive patient experience.

The RN will coordinate assessment, planning and teaching using established nursing models, serving as an advocate for patients and families while supporting the organization's mission and values.

Qualifications

  • ACLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • BCLS must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • PALS must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after intervention.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s) and document care in the chart.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and anticipate needs to provide exceptional care.
  • Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow‑up steps.
  • Provide guidance on non‑medicinal follow‑up measures and prepare for self‑management.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient‑centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision, mission and values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

  • Assess patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Perform exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Teach patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow‑up measures. Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
  • Teach patients/families/caregivers about any non‑medicinal follow‑up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepare patients and families/caregivers for future self‑management.
Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date.
  • BSN required.
