Job summary

UVA Health’s Adult Emergency Department in Charlottesville seeks an experienced Registered Nurse to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care to adults with acute illness, injury, and trauma in a high-acuity setting. You will work with a multidisciplinary team in a top-tier academic medical center that emphasizes clinical excellence and ongoing learning.

The role requires rapid assessment, strong clinical instincts, and the ability to function at the top of your license.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
• BSN required within 5 years of hire.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia.
• AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
• 1 year of relevant emergency/critical care experience.

Responsibilities

• Rapidly assess and provide ongoing nursing care for adult emergency patients across the full acuity spectrum.
• Care for patients with complex medical conditions, trauma, cardiac and neurologic emergencies, sepsis, and time-sensitive diagnoses.
• Apply critical thinking to prioritize care in a dynamic environment.
• Collaborate with emergency medicine physicians, trauma surgeons, APs, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Utilize advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and technology within UVA Health’s Emergency Department.
• Support patients and families during high-stress moments with a calm, professional presence.
• Contribute to quality improvement, safety initiatives, and best-practice development.
