Job summary

IMTT is seeking an Emergency Response Technician to support Fire Prevention and Protection activities at the Bayonne/Port Johnson terminal. You will respond to hazmat, fire, and medical incidents, maintain fire equipment, and lead drills with on-site teams.

Requirements include five years of emergency response experience, OSHA HAZWOPER readiness, and proficiency with MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint. A valid TWIC and Firefighter II certification are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years' experience responding to hazmat, fire and medical emergencies.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain it.
  • Strong knowledge of NIMS and ICA models.
  • Valid Driver's License and TWIC credentials.
  • Experience in industrial facility emergency response preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to hazmat, fire and medical emergencies on site and at the terminal.
  • Maintain and check fire equipment daily; report deficiencies.
  • Conduct regular emergency drills and training with teams.
  • Maintain response equipment, testing, calibrations, and records.
  • Assist in confined space entries and standby as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and USCG/ICA regulations.
  • Report to Deputy Chief of Operations or Chief of Department in absence.
  • Communicate clearly with all terminal departments; work with minimal supervision.

Job Summary

The Emergency Response Technician is responsible for supporting Fire Prevention and Protection activities at IMTT.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to everyday activities concerning chemical handling, PPE, and general terminal Emergency Management issues. Including firefighting, spills, and rescues as well as responding to employee concerns and issues for life safety.
  • Maintain and daily check of all fire equipment at the start of each work day. He/she will report all short comings to the IMTT Deputy Chief of Operations at the Bayonne terminal.
  • Conduct or attend regular emergency response training and drills involving on-site and off-site as needed.
  • Maintain and oversee response equipment, testing, calibrations, and recordkeeping as needed.
  • Assist in confined space entries and confined space entry stand-by as needed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable OSHA, NFPA, and EPA regulations.
  • Reports to Deputy Chief of Operation or Chief of Department in his absence.
  • Must be neat, detail oriented, organized, conscientious, and thorough.
  • Must be an assertive self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Must have good communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Must have some working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Must be able to work in a demanding team environment that is challenging and sometimes stressful work environment.
  • Must have five (5) years' experience responding to hazmat, fire and medical emergencies. Cross training and experience in other emergency response functions is strongly desired.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the application of NIMS and ICA models.
  • Must be able to meet the minimum ERT Physical Requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT's terminal locations.
  • Firefighter 2.
  • Fire Official.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, ICA 300, and 400.
  • Fire Instructor 1.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid.
  • Haz-Mat Technician Level 3.
  • Good Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and USCG Codes.
  • Record of regulatory, health, and safety training.
  • First Responder or EMR.
  • Confined Space Rescue Technician.
  • Previous experience in an industrial facility is preferred.

  • Must be able to manage the day-to-day operations in the absences of the Fire Chief.
  • Must be knowledgeable with NIMS and ICA models.
  • Must be able to meet the minimum ERT Physical Requirements.
Hours of Work
  • Typical hours of operation varies. This is a part time position.
  • This position requires overtime and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.
Physical and Environmental Demand

  • The large scale of the operation and the extensive layout of the facility require that the applicant can walk and stand on uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and traverse inclines: uphill, downhill, or mixed. Furthermore, because the facilities and adjoining facilities handle hazardous materials, the applicant must be able to ingress and egress in foreseeable emergencies. The applicant must be able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Must be able to work in a confined space, over water and not be afraid of heights.
  • This would require the ability to lift to 75 pounds, bend, stand, or stoop, as necessary.
  • Ability to wear and use a respirator and any other safety equipment.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment is preferred.
  • Equipment used in job performance includes company vehicle, fire apparatus, two-way radio, emergency response tools, and safety equipment.
