Job summary

Innovation At Work, Inc. seeks a dependable Telephone Operator to provide on-site telephone and telecommunications support at the Kansas City VA Medical Center. You will answer, route, and relay calls for Veterans, visitors, employees, and healthcare providers.

Responsibilities include operating emergency-notification systems, maintaining logs and directories, and ensuring HIPAA and VA compliance while remaining calm during emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years in call-center/switchboard/reception or customer service.
• Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
• Must read, write and speak English fluently.
• Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Able to obtain VA ID, suitability and security clearances.
• Essential position per VA disaster-readiness requirements.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls promptly, professionally and courteously.
• Identify callers’ needs and transfer to the right department or person.
• Operate VA telephone, paging, radio, alarm, and emergency-notification systems.
• Process emergency calls and alerts per procedures.
• Assist distressed callers during emergencies.
• Maintain call logs, messages, and service records.
• Keep directories, pager lists, and electronic records up to date.
• Monitor equipment and report malfunctions quickly.
• Protect Veteran, employee, and Government information.
• Follow HIPAA, privacy, security, and VA requirements.
• Remain at workstation until relieved and complete required training.
• Provide weekend/holiday coverage as scheduled.
