Job summary

Knoxville Hospital and Clinics in Knoxville, IA seeks an Emergency Registered Nurse (RN) for a Full-time Day shift on weekends. You will provide professional nursing care to medically ill and trauma patients across acuities, triage, prepare for exams, and assist physicians in procedures.

The role requires current Iowa RN license, BLS/ACLS/PALS/TNCC certifications, mandatory reporter training, and at least 1 year of emergency nursing experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC certifications.
  • Mandatory Reporter Training.
  • Minimum of 1 year Emergency Nursing experience preferred.
  • Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients to determine the patient’s level of severity/priority.
  • Assist patients to exam rooms, evaluate the patient and document findings.
  • Prepare patient for exam and/or procedures and assist the physician.
  • Attend required in-services, annual education requirements, and mandatory department meetings.
  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, and adjust the nursing care process as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Perform a head-to-toe assessment and reassess as needed across age groups.
  • Monitor the hemodynamic status and interpret results.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identify arrhythmias, and intervene per ACLS/PALS and physician orders.
  • Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient history and vitals.
  • Educate patient and family, review discharge instructions and involve family when appropriate.
  • Explain delays and waiting times and communicate with patients.
  • Maintain current knowledge of medications and their administration; manage IV fluids and drips.
  • Arrange transfer to other departments/facilities and complete documentation.
  • Follow departmental policies, safety, infection prevention, and equipment stocking routines.
  • Supervise and provide learning opportunities for nursing students and EMTs.
  • Preserve evidence when needed and complete documentation.
  • Use critical thinking to intervene for urgent/emergent needs.
  • Identify and manage life-sustaining functions in unstable patients.

Emergency Registered Nurse (RN)- FT WEP Days

This is a Full-time position working the day shift Saturday, Sunday, and Monday with every 9th weekend off.

Provide professional nursing care to medically ill and trauma patients of all levels of acuity.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately triage patients to determine the patient’s level of severity/priority.
  • Assist patients to exam rooms, evaluate the patient and document findings.
  • Prepare patient for exam and/or procedures and assist the physician.
  • Attend required in-services, annual education requirements, and mandatory department meetings.
  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, and adjust the nursing care process as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Perform a head-to-toe assessment and reassess as needed, including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Monitor the hemodynamic status of the patient and correctly interpret and respond to results.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies arrhythmias, and intervenes using ACLS/PALS algorithms and physician orders.
  • Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient history, condition, vital signs, treatment, response to intervention and any change in status.
  • Educate patient based on identified learning needs; evaluate the effectiveness of the patient’s learning. Include the family in the teaching as appropriate. Review written discharge instructions with the patient or responsible party.
  • Explain delays and waiting times
  • Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and patient clinical condition. Calculate, prepare, hang, monitor and discontinue IV fluids and medication drips.
  • Arrange for patient transfer to other departments and facilities, complete required documentation.
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety, environmental and infection prevention standards.
  • Participate in monthly outdate of medications and supplies. Complete daily stocking duties.
  • Supervise and provide learning opportunities for nursing and EMT students.
  • Preserve evidence as needed for assault/rape/abuse cases and complete documentation.
  • Use critical thinking skills to intervene with appropriate care for urgent/emergent needs.
  • Identify and manage life-sustaining physiologic functions in unstable patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC certifications
  • Mandatory Reporter Training
  • Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Nursing experience preferred
  • Required to complete all annual competency training and maintain license and/or certification.
