Job summary

U.S. Army Emergency Medicine Physicians deliver critical care to stabilize and treat Soldiers, retirees, and their families with acute health problems or traumatic injuries.

You will examine, diagnose, and treat in the initial phase, with access to advanced technology, and may participate in research and ongoing education to broaden practice in emergency medicine.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited U.S. medical school.
  • Current license to practice medicine in the United States (US, DC or PR).
  • Must be eligible for board certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency care to stabilize and treat Soldiers, retirees, and families.
  • Examine, diagnose and initiate treatment or referral for acute conditions and injuries.
  • Operate on the frontline with immediate medical attention.
  • Participate in trainings, continuing education, seminars and conferences to stay current.

U.S. Army Emergency Medicine Physician’s provide critical medical care to stabilize and treat Soldiers and their families with acute health problems or traumatic injury

As an Emergency Medicine Physician for the U.S. Army, you will have access to the latest and most advanced medical technology and techniques to care for Soldiers, retirees, and their families. You will be on the frontline of treating patients requiring immediate medical attention. You’ll examine, diagnose, and treat or prescribe courses of treatment for the initial phase of disease and injuries. There may be opportunities to participate in developmental research for advancements in your field. To ensure your ability to become a well-rounded physician, you’ll attend trainings, continued education programs, seminars and conferences to broaden your understanding of current practices and techniques in your field.

Should you choose to serve in the Army Reserve, you will be able to serve your country when called while continuing your work in your community.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy
  • Foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates
  • Must have a current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
  • Must be eligible for board certification
  • Must have completed at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship
  • Must have completed a training program in emergency medicine
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to serve on Active Duty
  • Must have permanent U.S. residency for Army Reserve
