The position features three 10-hour shifts (6a–4p, 1p–11p, 4p–2a) across a 32-bed ED, with double-physician coverage and a focus on minimizing burnout.

Qualifications

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality emergency medical care to patients in a 32-bed ED.
• Maintain a low patient encounters pace, averaging fewer than two per hour.
• Collaborate with a second on-duty physician to ensure double-physician coverage.
• Stabilize and coordinate transfers for high-acuity trauma and major cardiac cases to tertiary partners.
• Work a predictable rotation of 15 shifts per month in three 10-hour blocks (6:00–4:00, 13:00–23:00, 16:00–02:00).
• Coordinate patient care with on-site specialties including inpatient psychiatry.
• Maintain thorough, timely electronic medical records for all encounters.

• Efficiently stabilize and coordinate transfers for high-acuity trauma and major cardiac cases ("no heads, no hearts") to tertiary care partners.
• Work a predictable rotation of 15 shifts per month utilizing three structured 10-hour blocks (6:00 AM–4:00 PM, 1:00 PM–11:00 PM, or 4:00 PM–2:00 AM).
• Coordinate patient care with on-site specialties, including the hospital’s dedicated inpatient psychiatric department.
• Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely electronic medical records for all patient encounters.

Qualifications:

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Emergency Medicine (or a relevant specialty with extensive ED experience).
• Active, unrestricted Illinois state medical license (or immediate eligibility to obtain).
• Valid DEA registration.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a team-oriented mindset optimized for a co-coverage model.
