Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a pharmacist to provide patient-focused pharmacy services, monitor therapy, educate patients and staff, and distribute medications across inpatient and ED settings. The role includes remote services for the Gardendale ED and inpatient coverage as assigned.

The position requires a Bachelor s degree in Pharmacy and Alabama licensure eligibility, with strong emphasis on clinical assessment, drug information, and collaboration with physicians and nurses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor s degree in Pharmacy required.
• Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Licensed Pharmacist by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP) required.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assesses the appropriateness of each medication as it is prescribed based on the patient’s diagnosis, condition, allergies, and medication history; reviewing for adverse drug reactions and drug interactions.
• Actively monitors patient specific response to prescribed therapies; reviewing potential adverse drug reactions and drug interactions to optimize therapy.
• Actively documents patient’s medication history profile; notifying appropriate physician or healthcare professional as to any issues regarding compliance or medication therapy regimen.
• Assures responsible distribution of medications for administration in assigned area of coverage. Triages orders to meet immediate patient care needs.
• Provides drug information to patients and family members, physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals.
• Supports educational programs of the division and the department by precepting PGY1 and PGY2 residents.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
