Job summary

Mille Lacs Health System seeks a Physician Assistant to collaboratively work with the on-call physician in the Emergency Department or Urgent Care. The role includes evaluation and treatment of patients of all ages, with emphasis on trauma and critical care, within a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities cover a broad range of procedures, airway management, advanced skills under supervision, and thorough documentation. A MN PA license, DEA, ATLS/CALS, ACLS, and ED experience are required.

Qualifications

• Must be graduate of accredited PA program.
• Licensed as a Physician Assistant in MN; DEA license.
• Minimum 3 years emergency medicine experience, ATLS or CALS certified, ACLS.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat medical and trauma patients in the ED or Urgent Care.
• Perform core emergency procedures including casts/splints, nail trephination, I&D, laceration repairs.
• Perform slit lamp exams and corneal foreign body removal.
• Basic airway skills and venous/arterial and urinary catheterization.
• Advanced skills under physician supervision (LP, RSI, endotracheal intubation, needle thoracotomy, chest tube, sedation, cardio version/defibrillation, surgical airway).
• Manage critically ill patients and hemodynamically unstable cases.
• Interpret labs and radiographs; basic CT; EKG interpretation.
• Communicate with physician on-call and staff; document care in EHR within 24 hours.
• Understand basic emergency ultrasonography exams: FAST, AAA; complete training within 18 months if not trained.
