Job summary

Lifepoint Health Ottumwa Regional Health Center is hiring an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for a full-time Day shift. The role involves 3x12, 7am-7pm schedules with rotating weekends and a $10,000 sign-on bonus for well-qualified applicants.

You’ll join a diverse, mission-driven team delivering high-quality EMS care, triage support, and patient transport across ED services under supervision. This is a meaningful opportunity in a community-focused health system.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Certifications: Current valid Class D Iowa driver’s license and current Iowa EMT certification as applicable. Must also submit motor vehicle record during screening.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a team member in EMS and hospital support roles as requested.
  • Assist with triage and patient care from ED intake through discharge under physician or RN supervision.
  • Perform procedures within EMS scope of practice and transport patients as needed.
  • Participate in EMS student precepting and outreach activities; help with audits and QA tasks.

How You'll Contribute

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) who excels in this role:

  • Functions as a team member as an EKG tech, Code 0 team member, Dr. Red (fire) team, Dr. Armstrong (security) team, Hazmat team.
  • Takes an assistant role in triage as requested by team leader.
  • Demonstrates ability to assist with ED patients from triage to discharge under the direction of the ED physician or RN.
  • Performs procedures within their EMS Scope of practice.
  • Transports patients to procedures or hospital inpatient units upon admission.
  • Participates in precepting EMS students, job shadowing opportunities and public tours to make a positive impression of EMS. Actively demonstrates clinical professionalism while precepting new employees.
  • Completes run audits and QA assignments monthly.
  • Attends staff meetings, run reviews, mandatory education and participates in committee activities.
  • Run report documentation and charge batching

What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Certifications: Current valid Class D (Chauffeurs) Iowa driver's license and current valid Iowa EMT certification as applicable. Must also submit motor vehicle record to People Services department during screening process, Current BCLS, Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Certificate Experience: (paid or volunteer) as a FR or EMT preferred.
