Job summary

UNM Hospital in Albuquerque is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to assist in nursing procedures, provide wound care, and maintain a safe, clean environment for patients across age groups. You will stock patient care areas and ensure adherence to hospital policies and procedures, supporting the nursing staff and physicians in daily tasks.

The role requires a High School or GED, at least 6 months of related experience, CPR/BLS certification, and an EMT Basic license.

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent required.
• 1/2 year (6 months) directly related experience.
• Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Keres and related languages considered nonessential.
• CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days.
• Emergency Medical Technician Basic License.

Responsibilities

• PATIENT CARE - Assist nursing staff/physicians in treatment procedures; perform routine tasks.
• RECORDS & SUPPORT - Maintain records, file documents, and assist with clerical duties.
• EQUIPMENT - Support equipment maintenance and data collection.
• FOLLOW POLICY - Adhere to departmental policies, safety and infection-control standards.
• ASSIST - Help nurses manage observation unit patients.

Position Summary

Assist in the nursing care of patients. Provides wound care and splints as required. Provide a safe, clean environment and stocks patient care areas. Ensures adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities

• PATIENT CARE - Assist nursing staff/physicians in complicated treatment procedures; perform routine treatment procedures
• PATIENT CARE - Identify and assess clinical situations beyond their scope and promptly notifies a nurse and/or physician
• RECORDS & SUPPORT - Maintain record keeping and filing system; make photocopies; run errands; perform other support duties as assigned
• EQUIPMENT - Assist with the provision of administrative support in regards to equipment maintenance, calibration and statistical data compilation
• POLICY & PROCEDURE - Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
• ASSIST - Assist the nurse in the management of observation unit patients
• DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
• PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
• PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
• PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
• PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
• PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seems right"
