Job summary

Inova Franconia Springfield Healthplex is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician 2 to join the hospital's Emergency Department team in Northern Virginia. You will document patient data, support clinicians and perform essential care tasks.

This role requires 1 year EMT-B experience, valid BLS, and active EMT certification (NREMT or VA). Training includes six weeks of paid instruction with virtual, classroom, and on-unit components.

Qualifications

• 1 year EMT-B experience.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS from American Heart Association and EMT-B certification active on NREMT or Virginia license.
• Able to read, write, speak and understand English; proficient computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Document all required fields in medical records and charges.
• Assist with wound care and dressings.
• Collect patient specimens and transport per policy.
• Maintain equipment and supply inventory.
• Assist with patient transport for tests and admissions.
• Perform 12-lead ECG and monitor cardiac status.
• Perform phlebotomy per policy.
• Provide wound care and assist physicians/nurses.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.
• Six weeks of paid training: virtual modules, 8:00–16:30 classroom sessions, on-unit training.

The Emergency Medical Technician 2 provides accurate documentation of all procedures and therapies in patients' medical records and all specimens. Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens. Cleans and dresses wounds per physician orders and performs surgical preparation of wounds according to protocol and assists with application/removal of sutures.

Emergency Medical Technician 2 Job Responsibilities:

• Documents all required fields in medical records, computer entries and charges.
• Applies orthopedic splinting devices.
• Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
• Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit).
• Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring.
• Performs patient phlebotomy following department/facility policies and procedures.
• Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to assist with optimum care.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.
• Training:Must be available for six (6) weeks of paid training,consisting of,

  • Classroom-style sessions: 8AM – 4:30PM
  • On-unit training with department hired into (times TBD)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience: 1 year of EMT-B experience
• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Certification:
  • BLS from American Heart Association
  • EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMTLicense/Certification
• Special Skills: Able to read, write, speak and understand English. Computer skills.
