Job summary

Inova Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, VA is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician 2 to join the Emergency Department team. This Full-Time mid-shift role runs 1pm-1am and 3pm-3am, Monday–Friday with weekend rotation. Six weeks of paid training provided; eligible for health benefits and retirement matching.

Minimum qualifications include 1 year EMT-B experience, HS diploma or GED, BLS, and EMT-B certification (NREMT or VA). English proficiency and basic computer skills are required.

Qualifications

• 1 year of EMT-B experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• BLS from American Heart Association.
• EMT-B; active NREMT or Virginia EMT license/certification.
• English reading/writing/speaking; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Document all required fields in medical records, entries and charges.
• Apply orthopedic splinting devices.
• Collect patient specimens per policy.
• Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
• Assist patient transport for tests, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical per policy.
• Perform 12-lead ECG and monitor patients.
• Perform patient phlebotomy per policies.
• Provide wound care and support physicians and nurses.
• Training: six weeks of paid training; virtual modules, 8AM-4:30PM classes, on-unit training.

Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking for a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician 2 to join the Emergency Department team. This role will be Full Time Mid Shifts, (1pm-1am & 3pm-3am) Monday - Friday, rotating weekends. Candidates must be available to work any weekdays when scheduled. Includes weekend shifts on rotation.

The Emergency Medical Technician 2 provides accurate documentation of all procedures and therapies in patients' medical records and all specimens. Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens. Cleans and dresses wounds per physician orders and performs surgical preparation of wounds according to protocol and assists with application/removal of sutures.

Emergency Medical Technician 2 Job Responsibilities:

• Documents all required fields in medical records, computer entries and charges.
• Applies orthopedic splinting devices.
• Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
• Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit).
• Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring.
• Performs patient phlebotomy following department/facility policies and procedures.
• Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to assist with optimum care.
• Training: Must be available for six (6) weeks of paid training, consisting of:
  • Virtual modules
  • Classroom-style sessions: 8AM - 4:30PM
  • On-unit training with department hired into (times TBD)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience: 1 year of EMT-B experience
• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Certification:
  • BLS from American Heart Association
  • EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification
• Special Skills: Able to read, write, speak and understand English. Computer skills.
