Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking a Manager of Emergency Management to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the District’s emergency program, ensuring preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery across all hazards. You will collaborate with emergency partners, supervise staff, and drive compliance with state law and Florida DOE requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum five years of demonstrated experience and training in emergency management within the last ten years.
• Must complete FEMA ICS 100, 200, 300, 400 and NIMS 700 and 800 within six months of employment.
• Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
• Must be willing to be held over/called back to work nights, weekends and holidays during emergencies.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in fire science, emergency management, public administration or related field.
• Preferred: eight years of experience in the field related to the title within the last thirteen years.
• Possess one of the following certifications: CEM, FAEM/FPEM, or MEP.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and provide clear direction to all staff as assigned.
• Direct, supervise, and evaluate Emergency Management staff and Area Security Managers.
• Develop, implement, and improve emergency management policies and plans.
• Oversee school safety compliance inspections by Area Security Managers.
• Use data and after-action reports to inform decision-making.
• Lead enterprise-wide training aligned to the District’s Standard Response Protocol.
• Coordinate with internal departments and external agencies for preparedness and response.
