Job summary

The City of Columbia invites applications for a Firefighter/First Responder role to support the Fire Department’s emergency response activities within Columbia's jurisdiction. The position requires readiness for 24/7 operations, participation in safety education, and active maintenance of equipment and certifications.

Responsibilities include fire suppression, hazmat response, crowd control, basic medical aid, and documentation. Strong physical ability and adherence to procedures are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Class D Driver’s License required.
• IFSAC and/or Pro Board Firefighter II certification required.
• EMR and/or EMT certification preferred.
• One year of experience as a career firefighter preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls for fire suppression, hazmat, and rescue duties.
• Provide crowd and traffic control at emergency scenes.
• Administer CPR and First Aid as needed.
• Document all incidents and responses.
• Participate in fire prevention and education activities.
• Maintain and test fire apparatus, equipment and hoses.
• Attend training and maintain required certifications.
• Remain available 24/7 for emergency response.
• Perform general clerical tasks as needed.
