The City of Porterville is seeking a Firefighter (Entry Level and Lateral). Under general supervision, you will respond to life and property protection emergencies, participate in fire suppression, prevention, station and equipment maintenance, and training activities.

Special requirements: valid CA Driver’s License, EMT Certification, and Firefighter I certification or Academy completion; incumbents must reside within specified counties and pass the selection process.

Formación

• Eligible applicants must be certified by the California State Board of Fire Services as a Firefighter I or have successfully completed an approved Firefighter I Academy and be eligible for a Firefighter I Certification at the time of appointment.
• Knowledge of basic fire behavior, suppression techniques, basic life support, safety precautions and building construction maintenance.
• Ability to operate firefighting equipment, communicate effectively, work under stress and maintain records.

Responsabilidades

• Respond to fire emergencies and operate firefighting, control and rescue equipment.
• Render emergency medical aid and CPR to the sick and injured.
• Inspect and service firefighting equipment; maintain station and hydrant systems.
• Attend training, drills and physical fitness programs.
• Inspect buildings for fire prevention and fire code enforcement.
• Assist with programs such as weed abatement, arson investigation and public information.
• Participate in public education programs and represent the department at functions.
