Job summary

City of Middletown seeks a Civilian Dispatcher who will train on the job to process routine and emergency calls, assess resources, and dispatch appropriate police and fire units under the director’s supervision.

The role requires monitoring alarms, cameras and radio transmissions, logging case data, coordinating with multiple agencies during large events, and communicating clearly with officers, other departments and the public to safeguard lives and property.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; must be 18+ and obtain NCIC/COLLECT, 911 and Emergency Medical certifications within three months of appointment.
  • Must maintain all certifications as set by renewal standards for the duration of employment.
  • Position requires a valid Connecticut Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Receives on the job training to process routine and emergency calls; determines and initiates proper response based on procedures to emergency situations including hazards, criminal activity, injuries, accidents, fires, etc.; dispatches police and fire personnel to respond to emergency situations.
  • Tracks and coordinates all activities of police officers and Fire Department.
  • Provides information to response personnel; checks NCIC files on parties contacted by police officers; confirms warrants, stolen cars, license plates and other property.
