Job summary

County Of Lapeer is seeking a full-time Communications Dispatcher in Lapeer, MI. The role handles emergency police, fire, and EMS dispatch, maintains radio communications, and operates CAD/LEIN/NCIC systems.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and prior data entry or related computer experience. LEIN training must be completed within 6 months of hire, with strong typing skills and the ability to work in a 24/7 dispatch center.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: Some prior data entry or related computer experience with systems similar to that used at the dispatch center.
• Other Requirements: Upon employment must complete LEIN operator training within 6 months from date of hire. Ability to meet typing requirements of the job.

Responsibilities

• Receives calls for emergency police services, collects necessary information on locations, nature of incident and status, information on suspects, weapons, and other information.
• Determines the priority of the call, which agency should respond, and whether the call requires more than one police unit.
• Operates a Computer Aided Dispatch system and various other related telecommunications equipment.
• Dispatches appropriate units by priority and availability, utilizing familiarity with several radio talkgroups.
• Keeps callers on the phone to provide status information or instructions prior to EMS arrival.
• Monitors the location of officers and maintains awareness of their movements.
• Requests additional information and queries into LEIN/NCIC and other databases; reports back to requester.
