Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking an Emergency Department Technician II to assist nurses in a fast-paced ED. Under RN supervision, you will perform multiskilled tasks to support patient care.

Requirements include high school diploma or GED and BLS certification; at least 1 year of patient care experience or EMT. Training will occur within six months, with shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred experience as Patient Care Tech, nursing assistant, or nursing student with one Adult Medical/Surgical course and hands-on clinical experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of patient care experience in a health care environment or EMT.
  • Within six months of hire, must pass online course modules, phlebotomy training and EKG skills validation with an 80% passing rate.
  • Successful completion of ED Technician unit-specific training within six months.
  • Copy of academic degree or transcript may be required.
  • BLS certification (Red Cross or AHA) required.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs multi-skilled activities to support patient-centered care and outcomes.
  • Reports to Nurse Manager and supports decentralized ED workflow.
