Job summary

The Emergency Department Technician II at Medical University of South Carolina reports to the Nurse Manager and works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to perform multi-skilled activities that support a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, at least 1 year of patient care experience (or EMT/certified nursing assistant), and BLS certification.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Training and Education: High School diploma or GED required; preferred experience as Patient Care Tech, nursing assistant, or nursing student with one Adult Medical/Surgical course and hands-on clinicals.
  • Within six months of hire, complete online course modules including phlebotomy, basic and advanced skills, and EKG training; 80% passing rate on tests in two attempts.
  • BLS certification required within two weeks of hire; ongoing maintenance per policy.

Responsibilities

  • Under RN supervision, perform multi-skilled activities to support patient-centered care.
  • Complete mandated training and certifications within specified timelines.
  • Work irregular hours, rotating shifts, holidays and weekends as required.
