Job summary

Rochester Regional Health’s Patient Care Technician position is based at Newark Wayne Hospital in the Emergency Department. The role covers direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse and supports the unit with patient flow and care coordination.

Responsibilities include assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring safety and comfort, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

• Minimum age requirement: 18.
• 2 years experience in Patient Care Technician role OR completion of Nursing Fundamentals or CNA certification.
• Previous experience as Medical Assistant/Medical Technician/Technologist in a healthcare setting, or completion of a Patient Care Technician training program.

Responsibilities

• Provides guidance to Patient Care Technicians including scheduling and patient care deployment.
• Ensure safe care for patients regarding hygiene, skin integrity, nutrition and elimination needs.
• Assist with admission, discharge, transfer, transport and repositioning of patients.
• Perform specimen collection and disposition; perform delegated technical procedures.
• Observe and report changes to the licensed nurse on duty.
• Maintain and refer equipment that is not functioning; ensure equipment is clean and functional.
• Monitor unit supply usage.
• Support mobility needs of patients and assist with related tasks.
• Handle unit secretarial responsibilities and special projects; scheduling follow-up examinations.
• Transport medications from pharmacy to unit and between units following the designated process.
