Job summary

Parkland Community Health Plan is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator for the Emergency Department to support patient services by coordinating clerical tasks and using clinical information systems. You will verify status information, prepare patient documents, and communicate with doctors, nurses, patients and families to ensure smooth operations.

The role requires a high school diploma, 1 year of healthcare or clerical experience, CPR Heartsaver certification upon hire, and SAMA certification

Qualifications

• Must have 1 year of healthcare or clerical experience.
• CPR Heartsaver certification required upon hire; incumbents must obtain by March 1, 2025.
• SAMA certification levels 1–4 must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Transcribes, prioritizes, processes, and communicates all orders to support patient services.
• Admits, transfers and discharges patients by creating charts, checking rooms and receiving, logging, and storing patient valuables and nonvaluables.
• Prepares and processes hardcopy and computerized patient files by entering, sorting, and updating information to ensure accurate records.
• Coordinates special procedures by processing legal paperwork, X-rays and test data to appropriate sources to ensure timely delivery of essential materials.
• Acts as the primary contact for the unit, assisting doctors, nurses, patients, families and others to effectively service unit staff.
• Transports patients to other departments or for discharge if transportation department is not available.
