Job summary

St. Joseph Hospital, part of Catholic Health, is seeking an Emergency Department technician in Bethpage, NY. The role provides patient care under RN supervision, including data collection and assisting in admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Required are a High School Diploma or GED and CNA/ EMT-B certification or nursing student status with clinical exposure; BLS; and basic computer literacy. ED experience is preferred, with competitive benefits from the Catholic Health system.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CNA Training with CNA certification OR EMT-B OR nursing student with Fundamentals of Nursing including a clinical rotation.
• Current ED experience is preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association is required.
• Must be computer literate. Must be able to read and write basic English.

• Performs treatments and procedures according to established hospital policy and procedures.
• Prepares patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assists in and, as necessary, accompanies patient in the admission, transfer and discharge process.

• Appropriately places patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handles and cares for patients clothing, valuables and other personal property from admission through discharge.
• Functions appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.

Located in Bethpage, St. Joseph Hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, critical care and surgical services. Its Emergency Department cares for approximately 33,000 patients a year. Responsibilities:

The Emergency Department technician assists in the care of patients by performing various dutiesunder the direction of a Registered Nurse. Assists in patient data collection.

• Provides appropriate care to assigned patients.
• Performs treatments and procedures according to established hospital policy and procedures.
• Prepares patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assists in and, as necessary, accompanies patient in the admission, transfer and discharge process.
• Assists the nurse or physician in procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Appropriately places patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handles and cares for patients clothing, valuables and other personal property (including prosthetic devices, hearing aides, dentures, glasses, contact lenses, etc.) from admission through discharge.
• Functions appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED Required.
• Successful completion of a duly authorized CNA Training program with CNA certification, OR EMT-B certification OR a Nursing Student enrolled in a Nursing program who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing including a clinical rotation.
• Current ED experience is preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association is required.
• Must be computer literate. Must be able to read and write basic English.

Salary Range

USD $27.68 - USD $27.68 /Hr.
