Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking an Emergency Department Support staff member to assist nurses and physicians with patient care and clerical tasks in a fast-paced ED setting.

The role involves direct patient care, specimen collection, restocking equipment, IV line management, patient admissions/discharges, monitor placement, wound care, and accurate charting. Previous ED exposure is preferred, and a high school diploma with healthcare experience is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months patient care experience in a health care delivery setting OR completion of the US Armed Services medic program.
• Certification as an EMT, paramedic, medical assistant (MA), or CNA OR nursing student who has completed their first Med/Surg rotation.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect patient care, assisting nursing and physician staff with patient care procedures.
• Inventories and restocks emergency department equipment.
• Collects and transports specimens such as urine, blood, and cultures.
• Assists with the admission and discharge of patients, initiates IV lines, cleans and prepares examination room between patients.
• Places patients on monitors, provides wound care, assists with procedures in the ED.
• Reports and records observations in the patient medical record.
• Reports patient care needs and changes in condition to the nursing staff.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
