Job summary

OSF HealthCare in Kewanee, Illinois seeks an Emergency Department Technician to assist the patient care team under RN supervision. You will perform vital signs, assist with daily living activities, collect specimens, perform ECGs, and support wound care and immobilization as part of continuous patient care.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED and BLS CPR, CNA, and EMT-B licenses; 6+ months of clinical healthcare experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or GED required.
• Licenses/Certifications: BLS CPR (American Heart Association), CNA, EMT-B (Illinois).
• Preferred: 6+ months clinical healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

• Take vital signs and assist patients with activities of daily living.
• Collect specimens and perform ECGs as needed.
• Assist with post-mold application, crutch-walk teaching, spinal immobilization, and basic wound care.
• Observe and report patient changes; document in charts and communicate with care team.

Expected pay for this position is $18.98 - $22.34/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is an Hourly position.

$2.25/hr. 3rd shift differential

$1.75/hr. for weekend shift differential

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Emergency Department Technician functions as a member of the emergency department patient care team, under supervision of the registered nurse. The emergency department technician I performs basic patient care procedures to provide for the care, comfort, and safety of patients, including, but not limited to, taking vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living, specimen collection, performing ECG's, post-mold application, crutch-walk teaching, spinal immobilization, basic wound care, and observation of patients for physical/emotional changes. Other duties include recording pertinent information in patient charts and communicating with other Patient Care Team members to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• High School/GED

Licenses/Certifications:

• American Heart Associate BLS for healthcare provider CPR
• Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Work, OR; EMT-B, License in the State of Illinois

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 6 or more months experience in a clinical healthcare environment
• Able to communicate effectively in person; by telephone; and computer messaging
• 6 or more months experience in supporting physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of patients
