Job summary

UVA Health is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to support patient care in a fast-paced, hospital-based ED. This 100% patient-facing role emphasizes hands-on clinical experience alongside physicians, nurses, and allied staff in a dynamic academic medical center.

Typical duties include vital signs, EKGs, IV placement, wound care, and patient mobility, with shifts comprising three 12-hour blocks. The role offers mentorship and opportunities for growth in emergency medicine.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Experience: No experience required.
• Licensure: AHA Health Care Provider BLS Certification required; later acceptance for non-certified hires with relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and perform 12-lead EKGs.
• Place peripheral IVs and collect laboratory specimens.
• Assist with wound care and clinical procedures.
• Support patient mobility, hygiene, and comfort needs.
• Assist with catheter-related procedures.
• Monitor patient conditions and communicate concerns to clinical teams.
• Support EMS arrivals and patient stabilization.
• Participate in trauma activations and emergency response workflows.
• Assist with patient movement and department operations.
• Collaborate with nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary team members.
