The ED Tech at Harbour View Medical Center provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional, in line with Bon Secours Mercy Health policies.

Key duties include basic patient care, vital signs, mobility assistance, labs and ECGs, wound care, 1:1 safety, accurate documentation, and handoffs. Requires HS diploma or GED; BLS (preferred); EMT/EMR certs (preferred); thrives under pressure in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS Basic Life Support preferred; must obtain prior to direct patient care if hired.
• EMR/EMT/Medical Assisting certifications preferred.

Responsabilités

• Provides basic patient care and tasks including comfort, vitals, hygiene, mobility assistance, lab draws, ECGs, wound care.
• Completes patient rounding and 1:1 safety companion service as needed.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse, reporting changes and concerns.
• Maintains accurate documentation and participates in handoffs.
• Performs delegated tasks after competency validation and follows policies to ensure quality care.

ED Tech – Harbour View Medical Center

Job Summary

The ED Tech provides direct patient care under the guidance of a RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Functions

• Provides basic patient care and tasks to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assists with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG’s, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN.
• Completes patient rounding as assigned.
• Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
• Provides high level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
• Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
• Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
• Collects data, within scope.
• Completes patient screenings as applicable.
• Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.
• Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.

Education

High School Diploma or GED (required)

Required Licensing & Certifications

• BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
• Current certification for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting (preferred)

Experience

• Previous experience working as a Patient Care Tech, within a nursing support role or previous healthcare experience or second year nursing student from a Registered Nurse (RN) program (preferred)
